The Truth About So-Called Cosmetic Surgeons
COMPARE THE DIFFERENCE*
Since, 1933, the approved Member Boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) certify specialists in more than 145 specialties and subspecialties. The primary function of each of these boards is to evaluate candidates in its primary specialty and subspecialty areas who voluntarily appear for review and to certify those qualified as “diplomates” or “subspecialists” of that board. This is accomplished through a comprehensive process involving educational requirements, professional peer evaluation and examination. Accreditation review for the approval of residency training programs in each specialty however, is conducted by a Residency Review Committee (RRC) through the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
ABMS’ 24 Member Boards adopted a new gold standard for recertification with a continuous ABMS Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program for all specialties . . . so physicians demonstrate their leadership in the national movement for healthcare quality. MOC also requires proof of continuing education and experience in between testing for recertification. |
